Tourist Hosts Wanted for Stockholm City Hall Summer 2026
Stockholm – our capital city with millions of dreams, expectations, and ambitions. We work for everyone living here today and in the future. Now we are looking for you who want to think big, new, and differently with us – for the people of Stockholm.
The City Management Office is the administration of the municipal council. We are responsible for governance, monitoring, and development of the city's operations based on the vision and budget decided by the municipal assembly. We have over 350 employees who mainly work with strategic issues that are of great importance to the city's operations.
Description
Stockholm City Hall is one of the most famous buildings in Stockholm and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. They want to know more about our beautiful architecture and of course about the Nobel festivities! Most visitors come in the summer, so we are now looking for tourist hosts who can help us provide fantastic service to our many visitors at the City Hall and City Hall Tower during the summer of 2026!
Your Responsibilities
All visitors to the City Hall must go in groups on a guided tour; no one is allowed to wander around alone. Those who want to see the view from the City Hall Tower go up in groups but do not receive a guided tour.
Responsibilities in the Tower:
- Visitors to the tower gather outside the tower entrance, where you check tickets.
- You briefly explain how the visit will proceed and how long it takes, in Swedish and English.
- You inform about safety.
- You accompany visitors to the top and ensure everyone comes down in good time.
Responsibilities on the Guided Tour:
- You assist the guides in keeping the groups together.
- You ensure that guides and visitors follow the existing rules. The guide is responsible for their group, but it is difficult to keep track of everyone.
- You ensure that visitors follow the guide when leaving a room and you show visitors back to their group if they have left it.
- You assist visitors who need to take the elevator between floors.
- You also staff the entrance and assist with ticket control.
Other tasks may be assigned. This is not a job where you guide or narrate, but you will certainly answer questions.
Workdays vary between being very stressful and very calm. The job is also physically demanding: you will walk, stand, and move a lot during the workday. In the tower, you will go up and down over 300 steps several times a day.
Qualifications
- You have completed high school education.
- You have experience working in service, interacting with visitors or customers. Your experience comes from one or more jobs. Only internships and volunteer work are not sufficient.
- It is beneficial if you have previously worked in tourism or in another international environment.
Language Skills
You speak fluent and polished Swedish and English. What do we mean by polished? For us, it means that we know that one speaks in one way with friends and in another with visitors and customers. Do you speak another language as well? If you speak a little or a lot of German, French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, you will get to use that here! Other languages are also good, but not as common with us.
Attributes and Personality
Experience is important, but personality is too! You are the one who makes stressed visitors feel welcome. An encounter with a friendly tourist host can make all the difference for a visitor who has lost their group or does not understand how the visit works.
We believe a good colleague:
- is patient: most visitors come here for the first time and will ask the same questions and need help with the same things.
- collaborates and communicates well.
- takes responsibility for their tasks.
- is friendly and respectful towards their colleagues and visitors.
- can take constructive criticism and willingly offers their own suggestions for improvement.
- is mature as a person and understands that both visitors and colleagues can be affected by stressful situations and that you then contribute with your calmness and are constructive.
Your supervisors are available when you need support, but the job also requires that you can take responsibility and have close cooperation with a large group of colleagues.
You share the city's values and want to contribute to an environment where we respect, include, and take care of each other regardless of gender identity, ethnic background, religion, or age.
What We Offer
The job places high demands, and therefore we provide good training at the beginning to prepare you so that you feel secure when you start working.
The training is paid and includes several mandatory sessions, but does not take place during a continuous calendar week. The training includes:
- an introductory session
- 3 tours
- a course in fire safety and first aid.
- on-site training in the operations, both in the tower and on the guided tour.
All training sessions have mandatory attendance.
Recruitment Process
Interviews will take place from late January to mid-March. The first interview is short, about 15 minutes. Interviews are conducted on-site. Please note that if you cannot come here for an interview and for training (if you are offered the job), you cannot apply for this job.
The recruitment process takes time, so there may be a wait from when you submit your application until you receive a response from us or are called for a possible interview. Questions can be sent via email: [email protected]. Please remember to check your spam folder occasionally; we know from experience that our emails can get stuck there.
Please note that you apply for the position by logging in and applying for the position on this platform.
Scope of Work
This is a summer job and primarily applies during June-August.
Working hours are scheduled during the day, weekdays and weekends, and are scheduled with two consecutive days off. However, days off usually do not fall on Saturdays and Sundays. The schedule also includes holidays, such as National Day and Midsummer. Those hired will be offered to work for a certain period, based on staffing needs and operational requirements.
We take into account personal preferences, but one cannot fully decide when they want to be scheduled. We offer 6-9 weeks during June-August, and during these weeks, one usually works about 90% of a full-time position. All employees receive a schedule for their entire work period. There may also be an opportunity to work during the low season, but not as much.
The City of Stockholm works with competency-based recruitment aimed at recognizing each person's competence and thus counteracting discrimination.
